New Moon Intention

Consistency is key.

We create an imprint each time we meditate, regardless if the practice is focused or distracted. Those imprints accumulate over time and build into a felt sense of awareness.

But, like everything else in nature, the potency of awareness is subject to entropy.

Entropy is nature’s tax that comes over time. Just like an ice cube melts back into a puddle of water, the focus cultivated in meditation disperses and dissolves after practice.

Our sense of connection to this heightened field of awareness inevitably declines as we return to the demands of everyday life. There is a predictable and natural half-life to the experience.

This is entropy at play.

_____

The foundation of meditation begins with gathering, collecting, and bringing the mind to a single point.

We first apply effort and learn to concentrate and focus our attention. Over time, as the power of this process builds, we employ less and less effort.

Meditation is effortless concentration.

What is the key to creating the conditions for this alchemy to arise?

Consistency.

______

On this new moon, consider committing to a practice of just five minutes daily.

Sit.
Become aware.
Slow and steady your breath.
See, sense, and feel the present moment.

Do this daily for fourteen days without any attachment to what happens in that five minutes.

By the light of the next full moon, reflect on your experience and see what insights arise.

As always, report back. I would love to hear how it goes.

With love,
Kevin
